Working Principles and Technology
Radar level transmitters operate based on the principle of time-of-flight (ToF) measurement. An electromagnetic pulse is emitted from the transmitter's antenna towards the liquid or solid surface. Upon hitting the surface, the pulse is reflected back to the antenna. The time taken for the pulse to travel to the surface and return is used to calculate the distance, which is then converted into level measurements. This contactless approach enables accurate readings even in challenging environments with corrosive or viscous substances.
Types of Radar Level Transmitters
There are two primary types of radar level transmitters: guided wave radar and non-contact radar. Guided wave radar employs a probe that extends into the medium, using a cable or rod to guide the radar signal. This type is ideal for applications with foam, steam, or agitated surfaces.
