Unraveling the Construction and WR armored thermocouple
The WR Armored Thermocouple is a specialized type of thermocouple that features a unique design, integrating protective armor to shield the sensitive measuring junction from external influences. The typical construction of a WR armored thermocouple consists of four essential components:
1.Thermocouple Element: The heart of the WR armored thermocouple comprises two dissimilar metal wires, such as chromel (an alloy of nickel and chromium) and alumel (an alloy of nickel, manganese, and aluminum), forming the thermocouple junction. These materials are chosen for their compatibility with various temperature ranges and their well-established thermoelectric properties.
2.Protective Armor: Surrounding the thermocouple element, a rugged and durable armored sheath is employed. The armor is commonly made from stainless steel or Inconel® alloy, renowned for its excellent resistance to corrosion, high temperatures, and mechanical abuse.
3.Insulating Material: The thermocouple element is insulated from the armored sheath using a specialized ceramic material. This insulation helps prevent electrical interference and maintains the integrity of the temperature measurement.
4.Termination Options: At the opposite end of the thermocouple, various termination options are available, such as connectors, plugs, or bare wires, making it easier to integrate the WR armored thermocouples into different measurement systems.

The operation of WR Armored Thermocouples is based on the well-established Seebeck effect. When a temperature gradient exists between the measuring and reference junctions of the thermocouple, a voltage is generated across the junctions, providing an accurate temperature reading.
